API design & development
We design and build APIs that are easy to integrate against, with clear contracts, sensible versioning, real documentation and security built in. An API that powers your own apps or third-party integrations is a product in its own right, and we treat it like one.
An API is a product, not an afterthought
A good API is consistent, well documented and hard to misuse. That is the difference between an integration that takes an afternoon and one that takes a month. We design the contract first, secure it properly and document it so others can build against it without guessing.
- REST and gRPC API design and implementation
- Contract-first design with OpenAPI documentation
- Authentication and authorisation done right (OAuth, tokens, scopes)
- Versioning, rate limiting, and pagination
- Webhooks and event-driven integration
- Integrating and orchestrating the third-party APIs you depend on
How we build APIs
Contract-first, secure by default and documented as we go, so consumers (including your future self) can rely on it.
- 1
Contract first
We design the API surface and agree the contract (resources, methods, errors) before writing the implementation.
- 2
Build & secure
An idiomatic implementation in Go or Node.js, with authentication, authorisation, and input validation built in from the start.
- 3
Document
Accurate OpenAPI documentation generated alongside the code, so the docs never drift from reality.
- 4
Test & harden
Contract and integration tests, rate limiting and a security pass. Access control is where APIs most often leak.
- 5
Version & operate
A versioning strategy that won't break existing consumers, plus metrics and logging so you can see how it's used.
What you receive
An API others can build against with confidence: documented, secured and versioned.
- A documented REST or gRPC API
- OpenAPI / schema documentation that stays in sync with the code
- Authentication and authorisation with proper scoping
- Rate limiting, pagination, and a versioning strategy
- Contract and integration tests, plus a security review
- Metrics, logging, and a handover for your team
The API toolchain
Versioned, documented and contract-tested: the discipline that lets others depend on your API.
API development questions
REST or gRPC?
REST is the right default for public and browser-facing APIs: universal, cacheable and easy to consume. gRPC shines for internal service-to-service traffic where you want strong typing, streaming and lower overhead. Plenty of systems use both. We'll pick based on who's consuming the API and how, not on fashion.
Will the API be properly documented?
Yes, and the documentation is generated from the contract so it can't quietly drift from the implementation. Consumers get accurate OpenAPI docs they can read, try and generate clients from. That is what turns a one-month integration into an afternoon.
How do you secure the API?
Authentication and authorisation are designed in from the start: proper token handling, scoped permissions and input validation on every endpoint. Broken access control is the single most common API vulnerability, so we test authorisation explicitly rather than assuming the framework handles it.
Can you integrate third-party APIs we rely on?
Yes. We integrate and orchestrate the external APIs your product depends on, such as payment, identity and messaging, with sensible retries, error handling and a clean abstraction so a provider change doesn't ripple through your whole codebase.
